Granted, Henry Poole & Co is not a brand you’d ordinarily expect to collaborate on a limited-edition adidas Originals sneaker, let alone two. Founded in 1806, the revered Savile Row outfitter owns a pair of royal warrants, has a roster of world leaders past and present, and is even credited with inventing the tuxedo. It’s the latter innovation that has inspired the NMD_XR1, whose midnight blue fabric echoes Edward VII’s bespoke Poole & Co dinner jacket. The NMD_R2, meanwhile, employs the same grey chalk-stripe flannel favoured by Mr. Winston Churchill. Each of the shoe’s inners are crafted from the tailor’s signature Cundey Weave – a fabric conventionally used for jacket lining and bowties – while a bespoke selvedge is woven onto the heel tab.
