Copper and concrete – two materials Brogue likes very much, especially when they are combined so tastefully. This wireless speaker from Los Angeles-based Hult Design is notable for its high-density concrete base, which is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also keeps vibration in check (all-important for audiophiles). From the concrete rises a clear polycarbonate case, inside which is a copper spiral, inspired by the curves of brass instruments, that boosts the lower frequencies. The result is a clean and warm bass sound reproduction from this 20w, 1.5kg speaker. On the rear is a 3.5mm auxiliary port in case you don’t want to use the Bluetooth option. An on-board rechargeable battery is included for ultimate portability, and one can also stereo pair two Pavilions. But for Brogue it all comes down to that killer combination of materials.
