Leica, having recently celebrated its 100 year-anniversary, is laudably still innovating, despite the opportunity to rely on its fiercely loyal customer base and heritage. Take the new X-U model, which has been developed in collaboration with Audi Design. This 16.5MP APS-C camera can shoot underwater, as it is in fact waterproof down to 49 feet (15 meters). What’s more, it is also shockproof and sealed against dust. This is cleverly achieved by pairing its CMOS sensor with a fixed f/1.7 23mm lens, while the rear buttons are housed underneath an anti-slip thermoplastic elastomer layer, which covers most of the body. Plus, with a 3in screen, built-in flash and dedicated underwater mode, this is an ideal shooter to sport on holiday, or indeed on deck.
