If, like Brogue, you are a fan of the retro aesthetic that is popular right now in the watch world, you should very much approve of the new Oris Chronoris Date. Back in 1970 Oris unveiled the original Chronoris, which just so happened to be the company’s first ever chronograph. For 2017, the brand has released this handsome three-hand version of the classic original. The result is possibly a timepiece that is not only simpler but more stylish than the initial effort. The Chronoris still works perfectly well as a timer, however, thanks to the internal rotating bezel, which is manipulated via the crown at four o’clock. But for us it is all about that cushion case, the sleek grey dial and popping orange hour markers and second hand. The added retro detail of a NATO strap is welcome, of course, but should you wish you can spec a leather or steel bracelet. One last note, at 39mmm the Chronoris Date is the perfect size – not so big as to weight your wrist down and not so small as to appear lost or insubstantial. The power reserve of 38 hours and waterproofing to 100 metres complete this attractive timepiece. Grey can most definitely be exciting.
