Sonus Faber has long been associated with hi-end hifi, but for those of us who are looking for a far more user-friendly “plug-and-play” sonic solution, they have created the Sf16 – the brand’s first foray into multi-room streaming. This powerful 1,400W speaker has opposing front- and rear-firing 5in bass drivers encased in the wooden and aluminium shell. This configuration reduces vibration and improves sound quality. The Sf16’s party trick, however, involves two extending satellite speakers that slide out from the sides of the unit housing four tweeters and four ceramic midrange drivers. Once deployed, these result in considerably improved sound separation. Through the DTS Play-Fi platform, the system can link 16 speakers, or eight stereo pairs, and play MP3, M4A, AAC, FLAC and WAV files, as well as easily cope with 24-bit/192kHz hi-res audio. Tidal, Deezer, Spotify and Amazon Music streaming services are supported, with more coming later. Aside from the price tag, the Sf16’s exclusivity is further boosted by the fact that Sonus Faber are only able to produce 200 units a year. So Brogue suggests you pre-order now ahead of the launch in September.
