Sony have certainly brought their ‘α’ game for the latest addition to their family of flagship cameras. Rather than focusing on resolution, the α9 shines a considered light on speed — courtesy of a first-of-its-kind full-frame sensor which neatly stacks image sensor, memory modules and processing engine back to back. Consequently, the near-silent mechanism can fire off a blistering 20 frames per second, all without any so-called ‘blackout’ (meaning you can see what you’re shooting in real time through each and every frame). Other perks include 693-point autofocus, an ISO range that punches above the 200,000 mark and the obligatory 4K video, all powered by Sony’s super-efficient new ‘Z’ battery. “The future is yours” say Sony. Photographic excellence from α to Z say we.
