The exquisite Spark SRT05e prototype has been designed by Spark Racing for the 2018 Formula E season and will travel twice as far as the current Formula E field, with a two-fold increase in battery capacity from 28 kWh up to 54 kWh. Currently the battery, like the tyres, need to be changed mid-race.  As with the original SRT05, the electric motor will be built by McLaren Electronic Technologies, but improvements are expected over the current 26 kg design that produces a maximum of 270 bhp (200kW) with 140Nm of instant torque capable of 0-62 mph in 3.0 seconds. Pity, given the current advances in electric car tech, that Formula E limits top speed to just 140 mph.
