First launched in 1975, the Technics SP10 was, and still is, a giant of the turntable world, and Technics has just revealed a new prototype version, the drool worthy SP-10R. The new Technics SP-10R features a reworked coreless direct drive motor and 7kg heavy platter, for outstanding audio quality. The motor which, in addition to the two-sided rotor drive system that was used in the SL-1200G, boasts stator coils on both sides of the rotor, for a more powerful and accurate sound. The 7kg platter features a three-layer structure consisting of brass, aluminum die-cast and deadening rubber, and by optimising the natural frequency of each layer, external vibrations are suppressed. Eager audiophiles will have to wait until summer 2018.
